Akshay Kumar

Bollywood’s perfect bod sure knows how to stay fit. He shares his secrets with

Life After 45: I eat everything. But I never eat food from outside. Even on my film sets, I get food delivered from home. Quite early in life, I promised myself that I would eat everything till the age of 45, because I burn what I eat. I don’t follow any health-related guidelines; I eat carbs and gorge on sweets. These days, since it’s mango season, I’m having loads of it.
Like Clockwork: I’m extremely finicky about when I eat. It’s the only rule I follow. My day begins at 5 am with a workout. I have breakfast at 7:30 am. Since it’s the first meal of the day, I indulge myself. I have fruits, two boiled eggs, two slices of brown bread, dalia cooked in pure desi ghee, one glass of milk and half a papaya.

At around 10 am, I have two glasses of mixed fruit juice. I eat lunch at 11:30 am. I prefer vegetables, dal, rice and roti. At around 7:30 pm, I have some vegetables and roti. I only eat sparingly at night. At 9:30 pm, I another glass of milk and then brush my teeth. By 10:30 pm, Akshay baba is asleep.
Do or Die: If you don’t work out, kill yourself. When I was teaching martial arts in Bangkok, I always instructed my students that if they couldn’t workout for an hour daily, they have no right to live. What to do? I am a very emotional guy.
Gym Shym: I start my day with a workout. I don’t have a gym at home, and I don’t need one. I can exercise anywhere. I believe in natural exercises, not machine-aided ones.

Car Quickie: There are times when I work out in my car. I can easily do a pull-up with the help of the hand rest. And at home, all I need is a mat to do my push-ups.
For Kicks: I believe in shadow boxing. Once in a while, I make it a point to kick up a storm.
Disco Dancer: I’m always game for dance rehearsals. My kind of dancing is acrobatic and athletic. I love doing cartwheels.
Trainer: Never had a trainer. Don’t need one.

Supplement It: Supplements? What are they? I don’t believe in anything unnatural.
Body Basics: I never compel my body to do things it doesn’t want to do. If my body’s feeling lazy, I don’t work out. Nothing’s compulsory. Listen to your body, and it will tell you what to do.
Lose Weight ASAP: By cutting down on salt.
Say Om: I don’t get stressed about work because I enjoy what I do. I still try to meditate five times a week.
My Myth-Buster: It’s better to have food cooked in pure ghee than refined oil. Ghee made from cow’s milk doesn’t kill. Just work out.
Best bods: Shilpa Shetty and Sunny Deol.
